The Hundred Days period (March 1 – June 22, 1815) marks Napoleon I’s return to France after his exile on the island of Elba. Regaining power in Paris, he attempted to restore his empire against the European monarchies allied against him. His reign ended after his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 1815. Deposed for the second time, he abdicated in favor of his son, but the Allies restored Louis XVIII to the throne. Napoleon was then exiled to Saint Helena, where he spent the rest of his life.
